IoT Bridge For Snowflake

Snowflake’s platform architecturally scales compute separate from storage to deliver a truly elastic, performant, flexible, and affordable solution. IoT Bridge for Snowflake delivers a tool, purpose-built for Snowflake, that connects manufacturing and OT data utilizing the open standard MQTT Sparkplug integrating modeled data making it available in a no code easy to implement solution, transforming that data for organizations to derive insights.

  • Utilizes secure open standard MQTT Sparkplug

IoT Bridge for Snowflake subscribes to MQTT servers to receiving manufacturing and OT data in a secure and open standard methodology.

  • Self-learning Auto-Creation of Data Models and assets in Snowflake

Using the Sparkplug standard from the Eclipse Foundation enables IoT Bridge for Snowflake to atomically learn data assets requiring zero configuration and deliver the data into Snowflake.

  • Efficient ingest of Real-Time Tag Data to Snowflake

IoT Bridge for Snowflake only ingest data from the MQTT Sparkplug data based on Report-by-Exception meaning values are only updated as it changes vastly minimizing data storage requirements.

  • No Programming or Code Required

MQTT Sparkplug provides the open standard protocol that enables Edge platforms and devices the native capability to represent OT data requiring only configuration for a zero-code solution.

Up & Running Fast

The IoT Bridge for Snowflake provides an integrated solution from leading technology partners to make IIoT, Digital Transformation, or Industry 4.0 quick, simple, and cost-effective. It eliminates the need to rely on difficult-to-use offerings that can take months or even years to complete and achieve minimal results, exhausting the bank account on failed product offerings. It kickstarts the process by taking advantage of open standards and technologies enabling Industry 4.0 solutions such as energy management, predictive maintenance, AI, and machine learning. This solution provides the framework to quickly scale from an initial proof of concept to hundreds of factory implementations.

Bridge OT – IT Gap

There are a lot of challenges in bridging the OT - IT gap to make use of IT services in the industrial operating environments. To understand the difficulty of this process it is important to first understand the difference between OT data and IT data requirements for enabling Big Data services such as Predictive Maintenance or Machine Learning.

OT Data Consists of

  • Proprietary Protocols
  • Multiple Data Formats
  • No Contextual Information
  • Designed for Operations
  • Poll / Response Date Retrieval
  • Directly Coupled to Applications
  • Isolated Networks

IT Data Needs

  • Data Objects/Modeling
  • Standard Data Formats
  • Contextual Information
  • Decoupled to Enterprise
  • Publish / Subscribe Methodology
  • Easy to Integrate
  • Secure

The Ignition platform enabled with the Cirrus Link MQTT Transmission module provides an easily deployable solution. It connects to the OT data sources at the Edge and converts into IT defined data as specified by Eclipse TAHU Open MQTT standard specification called Sparkplug.  This is subscribed by the IoT Bridge for Snowflake which inserts it into tables for inspection with AI tools to gain insights.
